Process Heat Systems
Process Heating Systems
Process heating systems can account for well over half of an industrial site’s total energy usage and are often a prime area for energy reductions through the implementation of process efficiency measures and energy recovery systems. However, due to the complex nature of these systems and the difficulty in measuring energy flows, few of these opportunities are realised.
Ever wondered how much energy your site’s boilers, ovens or furnaces use, or just where all that heating energy goes? Energy NZ’s process heating system auditing service, which first begins with a base-level opportunity study, can help answer these questions as well as quickly identify key areas where energy saving potential lies.
For large or complex process heating systems, Energy NZ can undertake an investment-level opportunity study where the total system input energy and individual temperature, flow, and pressure readings are recorded and analysed.
Unlike traditional energy efficiency studies, Energy NZ can then assist with the project management, implementation and temporary or permanent post monitoring of any process heating system efficiency project that has been identified as part of the initial stage.
As Energy NZ is a recognised EECA programme partner, we can also assist with all Government programme funding options, including funding for base-level and investment-level opportunity studies, and assistance with implementation including funding for capital costs, project management and post-implementation monitoring and reporting. The base-level opportunity study is 100% funded in most situations, giving you a zero-risk overview of potential opportunities within your process heat systems.
Auditing Levels
Energy NZ’s process heating system auditing services are divided into three parts, with each part being carried out in accordance with the New Zealand Process Heating System Audit Standard.
1. Base-Level Process Heating System Audits
- Walk-through assessment, data collection and system check as per the base-level requirements of the audit standard
- Short report produced, including identification of system efficiency improvements and where investment-level auditing work is required
2. Investment-Level Process Heating System Audits
- Typically for sites which have already undergone a base-level system audit
- In-depth data collection, temperature loggings, ultrasonic flow loggings, electrical power quality loggings, pressure loggings, combustion efficiency assessment and detailed calculations as per the investment-level requirements of the audit standard
- Comprehensive report produced, including quotes from product suppliers designed to be very accurate and easy to implement
3. Process Heating System Implementation Projects
- For opportunities identified through either an Investment-Level audit or feasibility study, Energy NZ can assist with potential Government funding and provide project management and post-implementation reporting and monitoring services.
